INSURANCE GUIDES / EXPLAINED

What if a registration lookup cannot find your car?

Steps to take when automated vehicle information is unavailable or looks wrong.

THE SHORT VERSION

Steps to take when automated vehicle information is unavailable or looks wrong.

01 / THE DETAILS

Start with the plate

Check that you entered the full current registration without confusing letters and numbers. If a new plate was recently assigned or a vehicle was imported, the record may not yet be available through the lookup provider.

02 / THE DETAILS

Do not invent vehicle details

A missing or incorrect response does not justify guessing the make, capacity or year. Compare the information against official vehicle documents and contact the provider if the online flow cannot represent your vehicle accurately.

03 / THE DETAILS

When to try again

Temporary technical errors can be resolved by a later attempt. But when a vehicle is excluded or its record is materially inconsistent, do not bypass the check just to continue payment.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does an unsuccessful lookup mean the car is uninsured?

No. A vehicle-information lookup and the official insurance record are different things.

Can I proceed with a different registration?

No. The insurance must identify the correct vehicle.
